Instead of doing a plot and review, because I figure 99.5 percent of our readers know what this film is about and know if they want to see it again on Blu Ray, I wanted this to be more of a why to buy this version more than anything else. Most of us are movie purists who read these blog and website reviews already have in our mind if a film is either a rental, or own before we even read a word of or care about what anyone else says. At least I know that is my mentality. Films like Maniac on Blu Ray seem like a horror fan and genre fanatic wet dream more than a release. I had the dvd releases of this that came out a while back and was sort of letdown by how grainy the picture felt and how the sound in some scenes seemed sort of muddled. This Blu Ray release must have seen the problems as well, as the picture and sound are absolutely perfect.

Maniac is a film that is without a shadow of a doubt that film after you watch it; you know you just witnessed a film that is so rare that you will remember it for quite a while. Tom Savini what he did for this film in terms of the effects and the death scenes is nothing short of amazing and jaw dropping. This film truly raised the bar in terms of what a film can offer the viewer in terms of kills and realistic gore. This film is violent, realistic and will have you scared to go out at night alone.

Film collectors like me know there are certain films that we have to just own, and even if it means double and for some triple and 5 time dipping, that we have to bite the bullet and get the latest version. When Blu Ray first had the boom, I know studios were smiling and were happy that they had another medium to push their titles on and give us the highest definition and best quality. I will say, I know the remake is coming and a lot of people are going to spend money and see this, but before you do see the original, hell own the original. This is the true collectors edition that fans should own. If you have the dvd version, you may want to close your eyes and take the double dip, this is clearly the best version that has been released to date. I should know, I own both dvd versions and now the blu ray.

I will say fans of Maniac this is must buy, and if you never seen this film before you may want to hurry up and see this. Blue Underground are heads and shoulders the fan’s company as they are bringing us all these amazing films from our youth in stunning high definition and amazing quality with a lot of great special features. Maniac on Blu Ray is a fucking must, not even a must..a fucking must.
