Love them or hate them, Metallica has become larger than life and has opened up metal to the masses. Their 1991 self-titled album (widely referred to as the “Black Album“) will pass 16 million copies sold in the next few months. The album has already been certified as 16 times platinum for shipping over 16 million copies and is, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the best-selling CD of the SoundScan era.
To some, Metallica can do no wrong. To others, the band is the biggest disappoint in metal history. Myself, I am a huge fan of the band and recognize that there have been missteps in their history. Back in 1991, I was all over the “Black Album” myself, and while I am not the biggest fan of the album these days, there are so many classic songs on in.
