Cosplay at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con 2013

Cosplay, short for “costume play”, is a type of performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea from a work of fiction. Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centered on role play. A broader use of the term cosplay applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.

The Wizard World Comic Con is one of the biggest (and best) events for Cosplayers. I will admit that I am jealous that I have not attended Wizard World in Los Angeles (it will happen one of these years). I would love to see some of those folks all dolled up. That is not to say that Philadelphia does not offer up some great stuff though.

Over the years, cosplay has become a big deal with a lot of people making a big name for themselves in the industry. They occupy their own tables and even include celebrity names. Of course, the most loved form of cosplayers are the sexy women, and there was no lack of that in Philly this weekend. I am a man, so I have to look.

We met some really great cosplayers all weekend though. Most of the costumes are done very well and the ladies are something else indeed. Hats off to all that come dressed up though, not just the ladies. While I am partial to the sexy women of cosplay, seeing the creative costumes from both sexes is always a blast. I love seeing the more obscure characters myself, but Emma Frost will always top my list because I have yet to see someone that does not look stunning dressed as Emma Frost.
