R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman: Slayer Guitarist Passes Away at Age 49

Jeff HannemanIn what is the saddest news that I have had to report since Ronnie James’ Dio’s death, another brother in metal, Jeff Hanneman, has passed away at the young age of 49. Hanneman was an original member of Slayer, but has not been a touring member of the band since 2011 when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, also known as the flesh-eating disease. Continuing health problems would not allow him to rejoin his bandmates.

The band posted the following message on their Facebook: “Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Our Brother Jeff Hanneman, May He Rest In Peace (1964 – 2013)”

Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family, friends, and fans of Jeff Hanneman. He was a hell of a man.
