Black Sabbath have posted a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of new album 13.
“I wanted to make an album that stood alongside their first four albums,†producer Rick Rubin tells RollingStone.com. “The first album wasn’t a straightforward heavy metal record. You could hear the jazz influence, so that was the goal, and to capture that live interaction.â€
Song titles on the album include God Is Dead, End Of The Beginning and Age of Reason, with Tony also shedding some light on the band’s position on drummer Bill Ward choosing to sit out the reunion last year.
Black Sabbath Reunited Back In November 2011. Drummer Bill Ward has since left the reunion.
“I didn’t know Bill was having these issues when we got together — he never even mentioned it to us,†he says. “It was quite confusing. We wanted him involved, but it was just getting too hard.†Adds Ozzy: “You can’t go, ‘Well, I don’t like it.’ You get off your ass and get your shit together. The life of a bohemian rock star is fucking long over.â€
13 will be released in June via Vertigo and was recorded in LA, with Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk joining original Sabbath members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler for the recording sessions.
