Evil Dead Reboot Gets an Official “R” Rating

Evil Dead

When director Fede Alvarez tweeted that the MPAA had given the first run of his Evil Dead reboot an NC-17, I got nervous. Typically, an NC-17 rating means a lot of back and forth and trimming, which could take time. Thankfully, it got down to an “R” rating pretty quickly and is set for its theatrical release date of April 12, 2013 from FilmDistrict and TriStar. It has been rated “R” for “strong bloody violence and gore, some sexual content and language.”

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, “five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.” Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas and presumably Bruce Campbell star.
