ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE director Jonathan Levine’s latest feature, WARM BODIES looks quite interesting to me for some reason. I know that it is not a popular opinion to have these days, but it does look like it has potential. This opening excerpt introduces us the WARM BODIES universe, as Nicholas Hoult’s R tours the airport he calls home, imagining what life and lives were like prior to the zombie pandemic. In the case of individuals, he gives them whole lives, but in the case of interaction, we get a bit of pointed criticism towards humanity’s current social warmth, or lack thereof.
Based on Isaac Marion’s novel, the rest of the film sees “R (a highly unusual zombie) encounter Julie (a human survivor) and rescue her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human—setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.”
John Malkovich and Rob Corddry co-star. WARM BODIES is out February 1. 2013.
