It is that time again, time for the holidays to kick into high gear with Thanksgiving for many of us right around the corner and it is the annual WWE offering of Survivor Series. When you think about the history of this PPV, it is both a positive and negative. The positive is that the debuts throughout the years, The Rock and Undertaker among others, the 5 on 5 team concept, and the controversy (aka The Montreal Screwjob). The negative is that in the last few years even with The Rock coming back last year, it still feels like it has lost its spark. It just seems with the model of TV wrestling today, is there truly a reason to have so many PPV’s coming out? Now that being said, TNA last weekend put on a show that can really rank as them raising the bar, and the Hardy vs. Aries ladder match is easily a match of the year contender and may even be one of TNA’s best PPV main events in a very long time. That being said, let’s give some thoughts and predictions, lord knows Hell in the Cell last month was the worst WWE PPV in the last year hands down, this can only be an improvement. I mean, news this week of WWE cutting costs after Linda lost another election that only cost WWE 100 million dollars to fund, only means the roster is going to get slim, and hopefully this makes the talent step up their game on this show.
-C.M. Punk vs. Ryback vs. John Cena in a Triple Threat for the WWE Championship.
This is the case of overkill in CM Punk who let’s face it, we see way too much of him. It is to the point now that people do not hate him for what he says and he does, they hate him because they want something different. Still not ready in Ryback, who in the Hell in a Cell month with Punk last month looked horrible. Ryback is a work still in progress, and his character has still not caught fire with the WWE faithful, no matter what kind of spin you put on the situation, the man has not shown he can be believable, he comes across looking like an imitation more than intimidating. With John Cena being added to the mix, you know Vince knew last month’s main event with Ryback and Punk was an awful booking decision. Cena and Punk will keep the match interesting while Ryback will rely on his power game. For me, this is the true test for Ryback, he really has the most to lose in this match. The loss last month was what it was, but his performance was the real loser of the match, he simply is not ready for the spot he is in right now. Will he be ready? That is hard to tell, the guy has had so many chances in the past and now to catch on, and has yet to really show he is the one to go with. If the screw job mentality of Vince to constantly fall back on old tricks happens, expect Punk to get some kind of screw job and Cena wins for Dolph to cash in. But, my gut says we are heading for more Punk in the upcoming months leading up to Rumble and a date with the Rock.
Winner and still Champion-CM Punk
-Big Show vs. Sheamus for the World Hvt. Championship.
If it was not for this match last month, Hell in a Cell would have been the worst PPV of the last decade. These 2 have great chemistry in the ring and last month showed they can really bring out the best in each other. I like this new found push with Big Show and I think it will all lead up to a rivalry with Ryback. Which I will be honest is the way you should work with Ryback, put him with the monsters and do power moves in that match and make fans believe. I do not see Big Show losing just yet, next month is TLC and I just think the final match with these two will be a table’s match to end this feud. My only issue is that will Vince let his two heel champs both retain in one of the big four PPV’s? My gut says sure why not.
Winner and Still Champion-Big Show
-Team Foley (Randy Orton, The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Daniel Bryan, and Kane) vs. Team Ziggler (Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, and Damien Sandow) in a Survivor Series elimination match.
This match peaks my interest because it harkens to the old school Survivor Series match ups for more than one reason. First it is a 5 on 5 elimination match that is tailor made for any of these guys to really shine, and lord knows there are quite a few who are poised to do business in the main event soon. But, also with Cody taking that hard backdrop on Wednesday, leaves the possibility of someone else taking his place. The rumors are running crazy that Jack Swagger is coming back with a whole new look and gimmick, and if that comes to pass this would be the sleeper match of the whole night. Even without Swagger this is a proving ground match for all involved, Sandow they are so high on right now, and want to be in the main event picture, this is his chance to really shine. Wade Barrett who I will be honest, I think should be in the main event picture, has a chance to really put his mark on this match. Dolph Ziggler is always going to deliver, and this match should be no different. The Miz face turn, I like that after 5 years he is finally a face, but I hated how they did not build to it. It seemed so lackluster; this should have been a major deal. This match is going to be special, how much depends on how motivated the older talent in this match is willing to help out the next wave of guys, especially Orton who only is happy when he gets his way.
-Antonio Cesaro vs. R-Truth for the U.S. Title.
Of all the matches Antonio has had, this is the hardest one to call. R-Truth was on such a streak when he first turned heel, and then when he went back to face lost all of it. Vince is so high on the “little Jimmy†gimmick that he keeps Truth floating around the mid card scene. I really like Cesaro and think he is the next big breakout star on the roster. R-Truth had the lackluster tag title reign; they may put the strap on him. Though, what would it really do for Truth if they did? He would still do the foolish gimmicks and job out to huger names on a daily basis. I think they have bigger fish to fry in thinking that if Cesaro loses the title it will not damage him as well, this will be a huge step-down. And, money in the bank is not for another 6 months so he cannot win a suitcase to redeem himself. I think R-Truth wins if only for holding the belt so Sandow can win it from him, and carry that belt to bigger things for him.
Winner and new champ-R-Truth
-Eve vs. Kaitlyn for the WWE Divas Championship.
In the last few years the women matches in the WWE were horrible, not even close. They need a Lita, a Trish, hell they have a Sara Del Ray and a Natalya and do not use them. This match is going to be just like all the other matches between the two, same moves same holds same counters and same winner.
Winner and still champ-Eve
-Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal vs. Santino Marella and Zack Ryder in the free preview match.
Thank god this is free. You know the 3MB wins; they are in a building stage for the gimmick. All I really have to say is poor Zach Ryder, he was so huge on you tube and really had so much fan support and they just killed it for him, they buried him and he just comes across today as big of a joke as Santino.
Winner-The fans…you did not have to pay for it. 3MB
On paper, this PPV looks lacking, not in match quality so much as in matches. Unless they are going to give certain matches more time to work with. The match of the night by far will be the tradition Survivor Series match. Cena and Punk can go; Ryback needs to really shine in this one. Show and Sheamus again I am in, they really can work well together. Next month is TLC, and then Rumble and Elimination Chamber so this card is usually the blueprint as to what is going to lead us into the next series of PPV and TV shows and then the Mania matches.
