Review-Cocks Arquette may be a very odd name for a band but not nearly as odd as this band’s sound. The cd has four tracks, the first track is entitled Considerably Fucked and goes for about less than 2 minutes. This track comes across as a chaotic day in the studio doing demos and I thought after I heard it, that this cd was going to be a bad joke. But, the next track Pointlessly Vindictive goes for about 14 minutse and completely changed my mind very fast. It sounded like a cross between the whole 80’s and early 90’s alternative scenes all meshed together in a hypnotic head fuck. From the references to grunge, atmospheric and just hard industrial guitar riffs, this song just sounds like a band who threw everything into this sound including the kitchen sink and did not care how it turned out. The funny thing is that it worked. The guitar tones at time do come across like Nirvana’s Blew and Bleach demos meet almost a Ministry like groove.

Then we go to song 3 which I almost did not want song 2 to end, talk about 13 minutes that just seemed like total music joy. This Changes Nothing just starts off almost like a video game meets feedback, and tries to capture a sound from that and it just sounds amazing. I will honestly say, it floored me what they achieved on this song both sound wise and all out Sonic Youth old school era. Then Leave finishes us off. Not keep in mind the last two songs I named- this and Changes Nothing go around 24 minutes together combined. So you are looking at an ep with around 40 minutes of music. And like the other songs this song was unpredictable and very unorthodox for a band to even attempt. This cd if not anything else, has no genre and crosses every musical scope almost like what Mike Patton did with Fantamos.

All in all, this cd is bizarre and was a great listen and I know fans of music will really embrace this cd for its creativity and balls to just throw all the spectrums of modern music out there and dabble in all of them. This is brave and cutting edge music that people may not be ready for. I hope this band really continues down this path with its future work, talk about a band that when they break can redefine the scene once again. Such a fucking odd cd that I think once you strap yourself in, and put on the headphones will take you on a musical roller coaster and never slow down.
