Plot-Dolph plays a Russian KGB agent who is sent to Africa to kill a black revolutionary. The weirdest thing happens though; he has a change of heart when he sees how the Russians and Cubans are treating the locals. So he trades sides and helps the Africans fight.

Review-Synapse Films do blu ray right. This 1988 classic has never looked so good. I know a lot of people do not want to make the jump to blu ray, and I for one do not blame most people. But, if you had any thoughts about jumping to blu ray, Synapse gives you so many reasons why it is such a great jump. This film came out when action, jungle, invasions and war movies were just overkill. When the films like the Missing in Actions, Rambos, and the Arnolds were starting to lose their box office flare. And, that is a shame this is really a fun film that deserves to be seen. Directed by Joseph Zito, who has a resume that includes the above mentioned Missing in Action and another Chuck Norris actioner called Invasion U.S.A, the Prowler and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

This film came out prior to the Cold War ending; it was another one of those mid to late 80’s films that were anti-Soviet like Red Heat and White Knights. Unlike, the above mentioned this one was actually pretty fun. Watching it tonight even on blu ray, it seemed dated at times. But, the picture and sound were so above top notch, it is clearly the best transfer of this film to date. If you took away the action and explosions this film does have a message and surprisingly it was not that cheesy or bad. It is about manipulating the truth and how what you see is not usually what you get. Appearances are misleading and do we really know who are true enemies are, is the film in a nutshell. Well throw in a lot of guns, explosions and deaths.

Dolph is not a Oscar worthy actor, and it shows but he is good at the ass kicking in this film. And that is why you watch a film like this, it is all for the kicking of the asses. The scene in the film where he supposedly breaks out of a prison, was absolutely so hokey and cheesy, that it led to the charm of the b movie goodness a film like this provides. All in all, this is a fun time and if you are a fan of the action, you will enjoy this film. I had a good time, with this popcorn film. Thank you Synapse
