Movie Review-Damned by Dawn

Plot: During a violent thunderstorm, a family is awoken by piercing shrieks which summon the dead to rise again. Their lives explode in a blood soaked fury as they battle malevolent spirits, whilst fighting to save their souls from eternal torment with… the Banshee.

Review: As a horror fan or any kind of movie fan in general, when a movie is hyped up, you get excited. But when the hype is louder and louder and more and more people are bragging about the movie, and you have no idea how they could have seen this movie, you start to worry. This movie was hailed by all the major websites as the second coming to” Evil Dead”. A lot of people love Evil Dead and a lot hate it. For me, I am a major fan. And to hear that praise I was stoked about this movie. This movie started off slow, very slow. And I was patient. It’s the second coming. So by the 30 min mark, it started to pick up a little. By the credits, I was wondering if maybe this was a joke, and this was not the same movie that they are over hyping. You get some witch, oops sorry a banshee. Who screams the majority of the movie, and some hokey skeletons? A couple of mildly cool kills and a lot of boredom.. And 15 minutes towards the end, some of the dumbest and most hokey horror I ever witnessed. It made no sense, that the movie had a cool location and the smoke that was in all the scenes was kind of cool looking and it could not build a better story. The actors were nothing special; the script was good for a lifetime ghost story. There is a scene that involves a car and some skeletons, I thought was ok. It was like Wizard of Oz gone to hell. That was 3 minutes. The witch, banshee whatever it was. The one in Drag me to hell was a million times better, and a lot more tolerable. This let me down. I know Jason, and some others on the podcast- this movie was so anticipated to review. I am letdown, and I give up on the horror hype. The less I hear about a movie, the better I think the movie could be.

2.5 out of 10…this one hurt me a lot to hate, because all that hype.. maybe it was my expectations? And maybe you will all love it? Who knows?
