Movie Review-What Women Want

Plot-After an accident, a male chauvinistic executive gains the ability to hear what women are really thinking. A chinese remake of the american film with Mel Gibson. Taking his place from Infernal Affairs-Andy Lau…

Review-Having seen the original a long time ago and remembering I somewhat was amused by it, this interested me..the chinese remaking one of our films. I know there has others in the past, but this film and with Andy Lau as the funny romantic lead, this has to be seen. And to tell you the truth, Andy was not so bad in the film. He is chasing after Li Gong, who plays the Helen Hunt character. I wont say it is a shot by shot remake, but it is almost like 80 percent spot on. I can tell you I far more enjoyed this one!. It does have almost the same concepts ike men thinking sex is the only thing that will sell advertising to even mirror-like scenes . While this is certainly a more toned down version of the American one, it is also more thoughtful and realistically portrayed. The male character in this movie really does seem to learn something from the unique ‘gift’ he is given, does truly change and make you believe he is going to move forward with a newfound respect for women he never had in the first place. There is a scene where Andy is going thru female stuff that was pretty funny.

Andy Lau plays an entertaining narcissist who thinks he has it down with women until he gets the power to hear their thoughts. After that his transformation is both hilarious and humbling. Besides putting on a killer fashion show that in itself makes the movie worth watching, Gong Li does a great job playing the straight but sexy lady exec before succumbing to Andy’s charm. She is a star, there is no denying this…she is absolutely stunning. And can act way better than Helen Hunt did in the same role. As a whole, if you seen the american and liked it somewhat..this version is better by far. If you hated the american version, you may want to give this a shot…it could make for a great date night with your other…
