Metal Review – Abhor – Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti (2011)

Abhor - Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua ProtectiAbhor is a black metal band from Padova, Italy, that formed in 1996 making them one of the oldest Italian Black Metal bands in existence. They also have a nice underground following. Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti marks Abhor’s fifth release and trip into the unknown. With this release, Abhor shows more maturity and definitely a higher production value from previous efforts.

Dare I say that there are actually some beautiful elements to some of their songs. Some songs even mix elements of beauty and evil with the same minute of the song. The opening track, Golden Path, is a wonderful mix of evil, beauty and droning all in one. While it comes in at over six minutes and is the longest song on the album, it definitely has an epic feel to it. While Golden Path is a great song, it is not the only highlight of the album. In its entirety, Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti has the making of being an epic release and could end up making my top ten list at the end of the year. As it stands now, I cannot get enough of it, so if it holds up for me, I will be a very happy man.

When you get your hands on this one, which is September 27, 2011 through Moribund Records, do so. You will not regret it.
