Necrophagia is a band that we have not heard a lot from in a while. Formed in 1983, Necrophagia went on to release Season of the Dead in 1987, but soon disbanded. The band would later reform in the mid 90s with some help from Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. Now, after a 6 year hiatus, the Necrophagia, fronted by Killjoy, have awakened and brought us their style of death metal.
Outside of some line-up changes, nothing much has changed in the world of Necrophagia. Their style of death metal still sounds like the soundtrack to a bloodsoaked 70s horror film and that is right in my wheelhouse.
Necrophagia is a band that is more notorious for their personnel and friends moreso than their music. From having Phil Anselmo on guitar (under another name) to Killjoy’s friendship with pornstar icon Jenna Jameson, they always seemed to make news for everything other than their music. I hope that changes with the release of Deathtrip 69.
NECROPHAGIA invite you to join their gore splattered journey on “Deathtrip 69”. Six long years the rabid fans of these pioneers of horror influenced Metal had to wait for a successor of the US-band’s fourth full length “Harvest Ritual Vol 1: Penance” (2005). Now NECROPHAGIA return with a more old school approach to their very own gut wrenching, brain drilling style of Death Metal. The band was formed in late 1983 by the Godfather of Gore Metal Killjoy and their debut recording “Season of the Dead” was unleashed in February 1987. Despite their tremendous impact in the underground Death Metal scene, which they helped founding the Americans split in the same year. In the middle of the 1990’s Philip Anselmo (DOWN, ex-PANTERA) convinced Killjoy to resurrect NECROPHAGIA and joined for the next three releases including their second album “Holocausto De La Morte” (1998). Since then the band released two more albums including “The Divine Art of Torture” (2003) and several EPs despite undergoing continued line-up changes. In their latest eerie incarnation NECROPHAGIA serve another brutal classic with “Deathtrip 69” featuring all their beloved evil elements like gruesome movie samples, vintage horror feeling and ripping riffing. Joining the bloody fun for guest appearances are Casey Chaos (AMEN) and Maniac (SKITLIV, ex-MAYHEM), while the cover design was conceived by renowned tattoo artist Jake Arnette. Beware: NECROPHAGIA will get you!
Please note that “Deathtrip 69” will be released in a classy digipak with a transparent blood pack in front of the cover and the CD in black vinyl style.
