UFC Ultimate Submissions highlights my favorite aspect of MMA fighting. I am a fan of the grappling within the sport. To me, submissions are the great equalizer. It is like a chess match for these fighters. Some of my favorite fights have been the fights where someone seems down and out barely defending themselves and then they bend a limb and the unsuspecting fighter, who thought he had the match in the bag, is forced to tap. A perfect example of this would be the Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar fight. Lesnar starts the match with a brutal blow and within 15 seconds, eveyone is writing Mir off. Mir ends up with the submission victory shortly thereafter. It was a testament to his fighting style and many others.
There are tap-out clips from about 30 different fights. UFC play-by-play announcer, Mike Goldberg, quickly introduces each fight, giving a little background information on each fighter. Then, the feature jumps to the section of the fight where the submission occurred. The clips contain a minute or two of fight action leading up to the actual submission and are shown in no particular order.
Quote honestly, that was my main problem with this collection. It was quite a surprise to me because I had never seen any of these UFC Ultimate Collection videos yet. I was expecting the entire match. I will have to admit though that it was nice to be treated to so many tap-outs though. I would have probably rather have seen some type of top ten list as well, but again, I am nitpicking. Overall, the collection was solid and should be an instant add to an UFC or MMA fan’s collection. It is well worth it.
Here are just a few of the names that you will get to see in this collection: Brock Lesnar, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, Anderson Silva, Dustin Hazelett, CB Dolloway, Cole Miller and many more.
