Metal Review – Lekamen Illusionen Kallet – The Second Wind (2011)

Metal Review - Lekamen Illusionen Kallet - The Second Wind (2011)Lekamen Illusionen Kallet, also known simply as LIK, is back after a four year absence with The Second Wind. Lekamen Illusionen Kallet has a Black Metal feel to it similar to some Burzum albums. I can also hear a little Darthrone in their sound as well. Of course, you can definitely hear some Peste Noire in here as well. The Second Wind combines influences from various subgenres of Metal and Rock including, but not limited to, Black Metal, Blackened Metal and Rustic Rock. They are a band from Northern Sweden.

With The Second Wind, Lekamen Illusionen Kallet shows a  level of maturity since their last release. What you get from this release is a somewhat technical, but extremely atmospheric style of music that you can simply sit back and enjoy. There are not many individual standouts on this album, rather a complete atmospheric sound that you can lose yourself in. Listening to The Second Wind is a great way for me to just mellow out.

This is a Black Metal album where you will not hear any blastbeats as the drums are toned down. You can also notice that the bass is turned down in the recording a lot too. The guitar sound ranges from a Classic Rock feel to a Gothic Rock feel. The vocals are very Doom / Goth inspired.

From the outset of the album, The Other Realm presents at atmospheric, melodic opening which quickly turns tempos as easily as could possibly done by any band. Death Breeder comes at you a little faster with a classic Judas Priest / Motorhead riff-style to it. Songs like Ed Anger and The Delusionist bring almost a chanting vocal style to them. The Delusionist also offers some great riffwork.

Overall, this is a very solid release that I know I will get many more listens out of. Like I said, this is an album that is much more enjoyable in its entirety than by each individual song. Make sure that you check it out once it becomes available.
